Miniature Carousel Builders Corner
This month's skillfully crafted example of carousel art was constructed by Samuel Gillette and painted by his wife, Linda of North Carolina. According to Sam, there are only four full-scale carousels in the US that have never been moved from their original location. He has chosen to build a replica of of the 1904 Hershell Spillman carousel at Ocean City, MD which is one of the four.

This is Sam's second carousel, which was under construction for one year and completed in 2000.
THE DETAILS:
- Base: 30" hexagon (six sided)
- Carousel: 32" Diameter, 30" Height
- Ten sweeps, three rows
- Lights: 300 clear
- Type: Overhead Crank
Sam hand carved the 28 animal menagerie and one chariot. His wife, Linda, painted the animals and the 30 pictures featured on the rounding board and panels. The pictures depict the Victorian display of the full-scale carousel.

The Gillettes have been members of the MCB for five years and have displayed their carousel at MCB conventions at Hershey Park and Knobels Amusement Park in Pennsylvania.
