Miniature Carousel Builders Corner
This month we are presenting a carousel built by a new member of the Miniature Carousel Builders. William "Bill" Amy, Pennsylvania completed his carousel in four and one-half months this year. He saw a carousel at a Senior Center, that was built by a former MCB member, and contacted Jerry Defenderfer, a founder of the MCB, for instructions and help.
Bill and his wife, Marilyn, exhibited this carousel at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown, MD in June 2005.
Bill is a carver and although he has ceramic horses on the carousel, he has carved a half-sized horse and one full-sized horse.
THE DETAILS:
-
Base: None
- Carousel: 30" Diameter; 20" Height
- Twelve sweeps, three rows
- Type: Overhead Crank
- Lights: 504 clear
- Original Design
This carousel features 36 horses made of ceramic and porcelain, painted by Bill.

The rounding board has framed mirrors and pictures depicting vacation trips to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England and Alaska mounted in half-moon shaped wooden frames.
Similar pictures are mounted on the inside picture board.
Bill is still working on this carousel and has just finished making a replica of a Johnson band organ with 9 pipes and 13 brass trumpets, and cymbals. He is planning to wire his cassette player to a speaker on the band organ to produce carousel music.
