Miniature Carousel Builders Corner

This month's beautiful carousel was constructed by Lloyd Lindvall of Maryland. Before retirement, Lloyd was a Conservation Officer and a Special Agent with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in various states. Before choosing the "Wildlife" theme for his carousel, he carved birds--- mostly waterfowl.

This is his first constructed carousel which was built in one year, spanning 1999-2000.
THE DETAILS:
- Base: Table ((carousel base); 36" square; 31" height, cherry wood
- Carousel: 31" Diameter; 34" Height
- Total height from floor to top of carousel: 65"
- Two rows
- Type: Pit Type
- Lights: 50 colored and clear
- Original Design, "Wildlife Theme"
Mr. Lindvall chose not to use sweeps, but preferred to stagger the animals on the platform to better display the inside row. Motor, tape player and speakers are mounted to the underside of table top.
The carousel features ten "Fantasy" horses; a term which he believes applies to any carved carousel horse which is other than an actual working horse. Also, one lion and one zebra are displayed. Lloyd used basswood and pawlonia wood to hand carve the animals. The wildlife illustrations on the rounding board and mudsil, as well as, the animals were painted by Lloyd.
US and Maryland flags are mounted on the canopy.
Lloyd finds this arrangement difficult for transporting but he has exhibited at the County Fair.
