Be sure to consult our Buyer's Guide & Fakes Database before purchasing a carousel figure. Each day, more and more knock-offs come on the market. Some look old but looks can be deceiving. Become an informed buyer.

Miniature Carousel Builders Corner

Let me introduce you to Dolores "Dee" Lynch, Pennsylvania, a member of the (MCB) Miniature Carousel Builders since 2000. She is the MCB secretary and editor of our newsletter.

Dee attends the annual exhibits and other yearly events with her husband, Claude. With her sparkling personality and carousel background, Dee enlivens our club with her presence, and "story telling" of her "never a dull moment" life experiences.

Her love of carousels began when her parents, Joseph and Nellie DeLorenzo, were owners of the Circus World Carousel, carved by Marcus Illions. It was located in theBertrand Island Amusement Park in Lake Hopatocong, NJ before her dad sold it to Barnum and Bailey in 1972.

It was once located in Orlando, FL but has since been auctioned off piece by piece. Dee has learned that a resident in Lewiston, ME is attempting to locate "the pieces" to assemble and install the carousel in a mall.

Her dad's carousel was formerly owned by his uncle, Louis Accomando. Louis had formerly owned the B&B carousel but traded it for the Circus World Carousel. The B&B carousel was operated on Coney Island until it was purchased by NYC this year for $1.3 million. It was billed as "The Most Historic Carousel in the World.

After retiring in 1999 from 37 years of teaching Jr. and Sr. High special education, Dee became a volunteer with "Friends of Rocky Springs Carousel." Their mission was to raise $1.5 million to bring Gustav Dentzel's 100 year old former Rocky Springs Carousel from Dollywood Park in TN back to its original home in Lancaster, PA. Then later, their goal was to raise $4.5 million for the building to house it, etc.

Thus, began her fund-raiser tables. Although Dee has not built a carousel, she is a whiz with a sewing machine and her tables are filled with her creative carousel motifs on quilts, baby and children items, tote bags, crafts, and anything else she can think of. Tables are laden with children's books, stationery, toys, music boxes, etc. etc. All items bear a carousel theme. Claude assists her in toting these items to MCB events as well as the (NCA) National Carousel Association Conventions. They have traveled to Flint, MI, Chattanooga, TN, Binghamton, NY, Pittsburgh, PA and Sandusky, OH. She is kept busy with her latest endeavor, "Carousel Birthday Parties" at the mall. She provides crafts, games, picture props, etc.

This big hearted gal "is always doing something charitable" and recently collected 900 teddy bears for children in the hurricane disaster areas.

Anyone interested in purchasing "carousel items" or holding a "Carousel Birthday Party" can contact Dee by telephone 717-733-7372, or e-mail hlybkts@webtv.net.
