Mansfield Visitors to Experience One-of-a-Kind Carousel Works Tour May 6 - 7
MANSFIELD, Ohio (April 14, 2011) – The magic of the carousel will be revealed Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as visitors to Mansfield, Ohio have the rare opportunity to tour Carousel Works and discover how a carousel is brought to life. Guests can check out this unusual 22,000-square-foot facility in Mansfield, Ohio. Carousel Works is home to 28 talented artisans who specialize in all aspects of carousel manufacturing ranging from design, carving, woodworking, pattern making, casting, engineering, machine shop techniques, artistic painting, sculpture and management. Tickets to the event are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. All proceeds from the tour will benefit children’s art education scholarships at the Mansfield Art Center.

Carousel Works is the world’s largest manufacturer of wooden carousels. In 1991 they built the first new hand-carved wooden carousel in the U.S. since the Great Depression in Mansfield, OH (Richland Carrousel Park). Since that time, the company has created dozens of new carousels and restored more than 20 antique carousels. Several of these carousels are located in Ohio, including the new Columbus Commons Carousel (Columbus, OH), Akron Zoo Carousel (Akron, OH), Toledo Zoo Carousel (Toledo, OH), Columbus Zoo Carousel Restoration (Columbus, OH), and Chapel Hill Mall Carousel (Akron, OH). Carousel Works is currently working on new carousels for the LA Zoo, Bay Creek Resort (WI), Dayton Carousel of Innovation and the Detroit Zoo, which guests will get to view first-hand. Also on display will be figures from the historic Central Park Carousel from New York City, which is currently undergoing a complete restoration.

The Mansfield Art Center has a mission to make the visual arts relevant to the lives of all people in north central Ohio. To accomplish this The Mansfield Art Center brings visual art to the people through exhibitions programming, classes, workshops, and creative experiences.
